The Heart of Every Person in this World

Ever been stabbed in the back with a literal knife?  Most people probably haven't, but a lot of people have probably been stabbed in the back figuratively.  Today I'm going to talk about that.  This is more along the lines of  a "muttering", so please bear with me, because I think this is important.

People, in their deepest, darkest hearts, are evil.  We're full of hate and malice.  Everyone has the capability of being nasty.  I don't care how nice they seem.  Everyone has the potential.

As we relate to others we often fail to see that they have this evil side.  When we do see evil sides, we tend to avoid those people.  It's just natural.  However, when we finally become friends with people, we seem to forget that they have the potential to be selfish and cruel.  Well, we forget, that is, until that side of them comes out.

People are inherently selfish.  I see this especially here in the U.S.  People want to be comfortable and prosperous.  The "American Dream".  I was on the campus of Michigan State University the other day and I was watching the students walk from one class to the next with headphones plugged into a smartphone.  Most people here have a car, a place to live, and food to eat.  We get mad when the internet takes too long to load, or when our phones are slow.  We get aggressive when someone's driving 10 under the speed limit.  You know why? Because all those things are interfering with our personal comfort.

This principal applies to friendships too.  You know how people say that their friends break, "Best Friend Code" when certain things happen?  It's usually because the friend didn't think of what was best for the other person.  They only cared about themselves--their own comfort.

So people, let's stop looking at ourselves and look at others.  We aren't the only people in the world, OK?  Think of what's best for your friends, your family, your coworkers.  Don't just go out with your best friend's latest ex because s/he's cute and you feel like you like them.  Give the relationship the respect and wait.  If it's meant to be, you can afford to wait until your friend is over the breakup, OK?  Don't go screaming past the old lady driving 15mph under the speed limit with an attitude just because you're mad at the inconvenience.  Be considerate.  Resist the urge to flip off the person that just cut you off in traffic.  Think how you'd feel if someone did that to you. You wouldn't like it.

So there you go.  My probably uncalled for opinion on people and their inherent selfishness.  Sorry to be so grouchy-sounding.  This hits close to home for me.

Have a nice day, week, whatever.  I'll be back later...possibly with something happy. ;)
